On February 10, the Hunan Culture and Tourism Department announced that Hunan had significant growth in tourist arrivals and tourism revenue during the week-long Spring Festival holiday.
During the Spring Festival holiday, 10.08 million trips were made in Hunan’s 128 provincially-monitored scenic spots, an increase of 13.5% over the same period of last year. This resulted in revenue of 668 million CNY. More than 30.74 million trips were made across the province and Hunan’s comprehensive tourism revenue gained 210.08 billion CNY, an increase of 12.99% and 18.34% respectively.
Changsha, Xiangtan, Hengyang, Huaihua, Chenzhou, and the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture each had more than 2 million tourist arrivals. Tourism revenue of major tourist cities and scenic spots increased greatly. Chenzhou, Loudi, and Zhangjiajie had a more than 30% increase in tourism revenue.
Culture and tourism departments at all levels and major tourist attractions launched a variety of tourism products with the theme of the Spring Festival. Tourists had an important chance to experience traditional folk customs, such as playing the lusheng (a reed-pipe wind instrument), walking on stilts, spinning peg-tops, and flying lanterns. Winter-themed events like skiing, snow-viewing, and bathing in natural hot springs attracted crowds of visitors.
The number of tourists exceeded the rated daily capacities at three destinations during the Spring Festival holiday. But Hunan Culture and Tourism Department handled these situations effectively. The Hunan tourism market has maintained stable growth. There were no tourist accidents.
