    The First Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition of Hunan Province was launched at Hunan Forest Botanical Garden, Changsha on April, 9.Heritors of Hunan's intangible cultural heritages at the national, provincial and municipal levels brought to the two-day exhibition their stunning and skilled performances.The items of intangible cultural heritage on display and live performances include Xiang embroidery, Changsha palm fiber weaving, paper cutting and Sangzhi folk songs, boosting visitors' enthusiasm.During their daily life and long-term working, ethnic people of our province created brilliant treasures in literature, music, embroidery, folk costume and folk festivals, which are of great significance to the development of the country and the world at large.It is for the first time that the province exhibited the achievements made in protecting intangible cultural heritages, introduced Dou Xuesong, director of Hunan Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center.     2011 Zhangjiajie Int'l Forest Protection Festival Kicks off

    The 2011 China (Zhangjiajie) International Forest Protection Festival & Zhangjiajie's Launching Ceremony of the International Year of Forests was held in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park on April 8, 2011. Over 5,000 guests, tourists, young volunteers, and primary and secondary students at home and abroad attended the ceremony. Simple but effective, the opening ceremony of this 15th forest protection festival achieved zero-emission without fireworks or air conditioners. At the opening ceremony, Zhangjiajie spearheaded announcing an action scheme for the International Year of Forests and issued Pledges for Ecological Civilization. The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the PRC awarded a certificate of national geographical indication products to the city's giant salamander, the first aquatic wildlife enjoying this honor.     198,000 people visited Shaoshan, the hometown of Chairman Mao, during the three-day Tomb-sweeping Day Holiday in 2011, an increase of 17.4% from the previous year, with gate receipts reaching 540,700 yuan.More than 300 retired veteran cadres from Shanxi came to Shaoshan and held activities themed as “recalling revolutionaries” on April 3.They paid their respects by placing flowers at the bronze statue of Chairman Mao at Mao Zedong Square. In addition, the visitors held a singing competition in which the retired veteran cadres sang classic revolutionary songs such as "The East is Red" and “Liuyang River”. Many visitors continued to pay tribute to Chairman Mao with flowers at Mao Zedong Square on April 5.     According to Changsha Frontier Inspection Station, 7,213 passengers and 50 flight arrivals and departure were noted to-and-from Hunan from April 1 to 5, 2011. Among these travelers, Taiwan compatriots coming to Hunan amounted to 1, 815, a year-on-year increase of 10%, and foreign tourists totaled up to 3,543, up by 21% over last year.Many Hunanese offspring’s residing in foreign countries came back to pay tribute to their ancestors or visit relatives around Tomb-sweeping Day this year.
