On February 4th, some women from Dalong Village of Buchou Township in Huayuan County are wading into the water and catching Taohua insect, a general name for seven to eight aquatic insects uniquely growing in western Hunan. To eat insects at the ‘Beginning of Spring’ is a traditional custom of the Miao people. With the Spring starting right in recent days, villagers wade into the water to catch insects, fish, and shrimps, praying for good harvests in the coming new year as well as good luck of love for the youth.
