These towns were selected based on their characteristic cultural connotations, effective brand influence, deep integration of culture and tourism, industrial development at certain scale, systematic service construction, and innovative management mechanisms. They were nominated at the municipal and provincial levels, and then underwent expert evaluation, and were finally reviewed and approved at a Hunan provincial government executive conference.
The Hunan Provincial Culture and Tourism Department noted that the building of towns with featured cultural tourism industries will be an important measure to implement a rural revitalization strategy and accelerate cultural tourism industrial growth. The comprehensive cultural tourism revenue of these towns will increase from about 10 billion CNY in 2018 to over 30 billion CNY within three years.
