The 2020 China Happy Cities Forum was held in Hangzhou on November 18. It announced the “Happiest Cities” at or above the prefectural level in China this year. Changsha City was on the list and it won the honor for 13 consecutive years. And Changsha County was selected as a happiest county for 14 consecutive years.
The cities were selected by Oriental Outlook magazine and think tank Liaowang Institute, both run by Xinhua News Agency. The selection theme was “A Happy and Well-off City”. The candidates were chosen based on their level of integration into the "dual circulation" of domestic and international markets, and their efforts in improving governance capacity, realizing the high-quality development and building a moderately prosperous society.
A series of activities such as keynote speeches and theme forums were held, and the "2020 Chinese City Happiness Report" was released.
Together with Changsha, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Zhengzhou, Xining, Qingdao and Xi'an were among the "Happiest Cities in China 2020".
Apart from Changsha county, other 9 happiest county-level cities in 2020 were Jiangsu’s Taicang, Zhejiang’s Cixi, Jiangsu’s Zhangjiagang, Zhejiang’s Yuyao and Ruian, Henan’s Gongyi, Jiangsu’s Pizhou and Kunshan, and Shandong’s Feicheng.
