Rock agaric-A treasure in Zhangjiajie (CHAPTER 1)

Food 2013/03/20 View:2489

Ugly creature out of our dormitory, the ground is dotted with a lot of tiny black spots after a huge thunder storm. To my greatest surprise, people here are picking them up in a bag and water them in a pot.

I have never seen this until I came to Zhangjiajie, a large amount of investigations later; I finally know who it is. It is called Rock agaric or Umbilicaria esculenta, a specialty in Zhangjiajie, growing on precipice. It is a kind of gray and yellowish-brown leaf-shaped moss covering the rocks. Full of nutriments, it shares the attributes of both food and medicine, which can diminish inflammation as well as nourish your body. As for its rarity and inaccessibility, the Rock Fungus is a treasure in local people’s eyes, thus they often present it as a precious gift for their most respectful guests! Therefore, if you have ever had it, what a lucky dog you are!

As to the introduction of its delicious flavor, please wait until the next chapter.
