1.Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is the first national forest park in China, with an area of 48 square kilometers, this park,together with Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve,Yangjiajie Scenic Srea and Souxi Valley,together make up Wulingyuan Scenic Area.From December to February is off-peak season in Zhangjiajie national Forest Park, all scenic spots open to public throughout the whole year,with white snow and ice, the park turns to a fairyland.It is often slippery and cold on the top of mountains after snowing,so please wear warm clothes and hiking shoes before starting your trip.

Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon is a new discoveried scenic spot outside Zhangjiajie National Park. Situated in Sanguansi Village, Cili County, Zhangjiajie City, 20 km east to Wulingyuan World Natural Heritage Site,with a deep valley and the longest glass bridge in the world, Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon incorporates mountains, streams, caves, cliffs and numerous waterfalls.The valley is often closed in the snowy days for the pathways are very slippery,but you can still visit the glass bridge,what's more, it is much easier to buy the tickets and the price is cheaper in the off-peak season.
4.Baofeng Lake
Baofeng Lake is an ideal place to visit in Zhangjiajie in winter,the water in the Lake is mountain spring,it won't freeze throughout the whole year,since Baofeng Lake is located on the top of mountain, there are 2 ways to reach the lake, one way is hiking up, it will take you almost 30-40 minutes,the road is a little slippery after snow,the other one is to take VIP tourism bus,you need to pay more 15rmb/pax for the transportation.
5.Fenghuang Ancient City
Fenghuang Ancient City is near to Zhangjiajie, about 3 hours bus riding from Zhangjiajie to get to it.Hemmed in by rolling mountains and watered by a smoothly flowing river, flagstone streets, rows of traditional wooden houses built on stilts, towers, bridges everywhere, small boats rowed down the river, that's a portrait of Fenghuang.Not like high mountains,any time is good for visiting this beautiful ancient town,less crowded and more quiet,the sceneries in the town are even more beautiful in the snowy days, it is a best way to relax yourself to have a leisure walking along the stone roads.
Zhangjaijie winter's weather
It often begins to snow in the middle of December, January is the coldest month in Zhangjiajie, it's freezing and windy.The average temperature is 4°C (40°F), and sometimes it gets very windy. We suggest that you bring warm and windproof clothes.especially when you are going to the top of mountains,the temperature will be even lower.
Good to know
Because of low temperature in winter, some scenic spots in Zhangjiajie are closed, for example,Tianmen Cave,Tianmen Mountain Escalator,Tianmen Heavily Road, but Tianmen Cablecar is still available in winter, so you can only have a visiting on the top of Tianmen Mountain. Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon is also closed if the pathway is too slippery. Sometimes, Tianzi Cablecar and Yellow Stone Village cablecar are under safety checking from December to January.
A lot of flights are cancelled in winter in Zhangjiajie, you maybe need to arrive in Changsha first, then take bus or ask the travel agency to arrange the private transportation from Changsha to Zhangjiajie.
